Vol. 6 No. 3 (2024): Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine
Volume 6, Issue 6.3 gathers twenty-four papers of the Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine sections of the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences "Gheorghe Ionescu-Sisesti", presented at the Academy's anniversary session of 30 May 2024.
Sheep and goat research forms the largest group: wool productivity in crossbreeds of local and imported specialised breeds, growth performance of Tsigai rusty variety lambs against three-way crossbreds, intra-population structure and colour shade transmission in Karakul of Botosani flocks, the influence of the alpha-S1 casein genotype on goat milk cheese yield, feeding technologies for different sheep categories, growth intensity in the Rovasi breed, and the creation by crossing of a new meat breed at Palas. Cattle and buffalo papers address the metabolic profile and ovarian response in buffaloes with prolonged anestrus, the metabolic profile of dairy cows with mastitis, back-crossing schemes for beef synthetic breeds, CSN2 A1/A2 allelic variants in relation to milk quality, and the use of Cichorium intybus to improve feed palatability. Four papers cover aquaculture at the Nucet fish culture station: selective breeding and epigenetic programming, population density in Sander lucioperca rearing, the introduction of new fish species, and feeding strategies with alternative feed additives.
Veterinary medicine contributions include coconut water-based extenders for ram epididymal sperm, the proliferative potential of sheep endometrial mesenchymal stem cells, control of Balantidium coli in swine with wormwood and Tagetes extracts, circulating immune complexes in contagious agalactia of sheep, and staphylococcal mastitis in sheep. A review covers infectious mycotic diseases of Bombyx mori L. silkworms.
Papers are published in English, with abstracts in English and Romanian.
