Vol. 6 No. 2 (2024): Horticulture

Volume 6, Issue 6.2 gathers twenty-four papers of the Horticulture section of the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences "Gheorghe Ionescu-Sisesti", presented at the Academy's anniversary conference of 30 May 2024. The issue is organised in three parts: Vegetable Growing, Fruit Growing, and Viticulture and Oenology.

The vegetable papers cover certified organic seed production at VRDS Bacau, control of damaging agents in tomato, melon and cucumber crops under high plastic tunnels, salicylic acid as a means of raising tomato tolerance to abiotic stress in vitro, entomopathogenic fungal strains against horticultural pests, the effect of climate change on common bean pest populations, the influence of cucurbit species on substrate chemistry, pepper cultivation trends in Romania and the European Union, and a study of Majorana hortensis at VRDS Buzau. The fruit growing part presents the breeding programmes of the Research Institute for Fruit Growing Pitesti, the response of plum cultivars to Stigmina carpophila under Bistrita conditions, and the detection of apricot latent virus in peach in the Constanta area.

Viticulture and oenology form the largest part: downy mildew attack in plantations, wine quality improvement from autochthonous varieties, the behaviour of the Columna and Mamaia varieties in north-eastern Romania, ampelographic description of new grape cultivars, two historical accounts of viticultural research at Valea Calugareasca, the climatic characterisation of the 2023 viticultural year at Blaj, green pruning as a tool against fungal diseases, grape composition in white and semi-aromatic varieties, the effect of increased vineyard biodiversity on plant health, experimental design methods in vine schools, and the influence of climate change on grapevine phenology in the Iasi vineyard.

Papers are published in English, with abstracts in English and Romanian.
